Satish Chandra Kaushik (13 April 1956 – 9 March 2023) was one of Bollywood’s most versatile talents — an actor, director, producer, comedian, and screenwriter.
Early Life & Education Born in Dhanounda, Mahendragarh district, Haryana, Kaushik grew up in Delhi. He graduated from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University in 1972 with a commerce degree, and later trained at the National School of Drama (NSD) and the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune — institutions that shaped his craft.
Theatre & Writing Before films, Kaushik was deeply involved in theatre. His most acclaimed stage role was Willy Loman in “Salesman Ramlal”, a Hindi adaptation of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. He also co‑wrote dialogues for the cult comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983), which remains a landmark in Indian cinema.
Acting Career Kaushik appeared in over 100 films, often remembered for his comic timing and warmth.
Calendar in Mr. India (1987) — his iconic line “Calendar, khaana do” became a household phrase.

Directorial Career His debut as director was Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993), followed by Prem (1995). Though both failed commercially, he bounced back with hits like:

Personal Life Married to Shashi Kaushik since 1985, with two children. His son Shanu tragically passed away in the 1990s; his daughter Vanshika was born in 2012.
Final Days & Passing Kaushik was last seen celebrating Holi at Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi’s party on 7 March 2023. He passed away on 9 March 2023 in Gurugram, Haryana, due to cardiac arrest. His sudden demise at age 66 left a deep void in Bollywood.
